We at Tank Theory are holding an art contest with Covert Boardshop in California. Think you got what it takes to make it into the ranks of Tank Theory? Prove it by submitting work to either Covert locations in California.. either in Upland or Baldwin Hills. Submit up to 2 pieces of art either handrawn or electronically and deliver in person to either Covert location or via email to Rich Benes at and to Please put Tank Theory Art in the subject line. Also please keep emailed artwork low res.. 72dpi no larger than 1000px high.

The contest is on now.. from Jan 25th until March 15th. I will be one of the final judges and I'm a hard sell.. so the submissions have got to be hot! Happy designing and good luck!

I had never seen the magazine before, but it's dope.. the graf they feature is bonkers! Kudos to Victor and Janelle..

New Studio Space!

It's 2009 and I finally buckled down and got myself a bonafied studio space! I am moving into the 1920's North Coast Seed building in the Union Pacific train yard in the northeast part of Portland... right next to the Williamette River. It's a really industrial area that quite reminds me of New York.. a little piece of bustle and chaos amongst the often quiet of the pacific northwest.. And the actual studio space is huge.. 1400 sq. ft. 20ft wide, 70ft long with 14ft celings! And granted I don't even need all this space for myself, so I will be sharing it with a couple friends..

I don't move in until Feb 1st or so but the first order of business is getting rid of the standard tech/web neon green that is currently covering the walls!

Studio Visit - Eatcho

I took some time to visit my good friend and artist in arms, Eatcho, at his studio. He, Jason Graham and Robert Amadore are having a group show this upcoming thursday at the same gallery I just took my Acid in the Ice Cream show down from.. Backspace. I thought I'd pay him a visit and check out what he's been up to for the show... titled "Donde esta tu Hermana". One of the other artists, Jason, was also around for a bit of my visit. You'll see him in a couple of the photos.

So if you're in or around Portland this thursday, Jan 08, swing on through Backspace for the opening.

And you can check out more of what Eatcho does at his website,

Acid in the Ice Cream - Closing Reception

The closing reception for my Acid in the Ice Cream show at Backspace Gallery took place on saturday, Jan 3rd and went smashingly. I want to thank DJs Tricera and Ill Slurl who provided kickin music well after the hours of the closing and Voodoo donuts who were kind enough to donate a slew of amazing donuts for the event. I'm pretty sure the donuts were more popular than the actual artwork at the show.. and thanks to everyone else who came out and showed support!
